Vera Inez Berry

Vera Inez Berry, born on May 1, 1942, to the late Rev. Charlie and Mary Allen, departed from this world on January 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a woman of grace and compassion, known for her love of God and unwavering devotion to her family. Vera was an extraordinary woman who left an indelible mark on the hearts of anyone who was fortunate to know her. Vera's journey began in McRae, GA, where she was educated in the Telfair County School System, graduating from Central High School. While living in Georgia, she attended Francis Chapel Church. Upon moving to Chester, PA in the early sixties, Vera became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. After relocating to Bear, DE, she became a member of Alpha Worship Center. Vera retired from Verizon after 33 years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. During her employment at Verizon, Vera made many lifelong friends and her influence extended beyond her years of service. Family was at the core of Vera's existence. As a loving spouse to John, she created a home filled with love and wonderful memories. Vera's nurturing spirit extended to her children, Monica and Jarvis, whom she raised with unconditional love. She instilled in them values that will endure for generations. Vera was also deeply devoted to her grandsons, DeVante and JaVon, showering them with love, knowledge and wisdom. Her grandsons brought immense joy to her life and she cherished every moment with them. Vera found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. An avid gardener, she cultivated beauty and serenity in her surroundings. Her passion for nurturing life extended to the kitchen, where she created delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Vera’s presence conveyed warmth to family gatherings and her laughter echoed in the hearts of all in attendance. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Charlie H. Allen and Mary Bellamy Allen, her sister, Georgia Riley and brothers, Otis Allen, James C. Allen, William Allen and Leroy Allen. Vera leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband, John Berry, children, Monica Parker (Marshall) of Bear, DE and Jarvis Berry of Coatesville, PA, two beloved grandsons, DeVante Parker (Madelyn) and JaVon Parker, a niece who was more like a daughter, Diann Bandele (Ayo) of Barnesville, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Vera will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to be a part of her life's journey. As we say our goodbyes, let us celebrate the legacy she leaves behind and find comfort in the cherished memories that will forever live on. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the America Cancer Society.
