REMEMBERING TAN On Monday, June 5, 2023 almighty God in his infinite wisdom, mercy, and grace, gently closed the eyes of our beloved Tanya “Tan” M. Potts, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, in Chester, PA. Tan was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest of two children born to Jacqueline and Steven D. Potts, Sr. She also was the older sister to her two siblings, Calvin and Shanika, born to Jacqueline and Calvin P. Bernard, Jr. We would be absolutely remiss if we didn’t also mention she was the oldest cousin to many of her younger cousins as she would always fondly remind everyone. She loved her family so. Tanya made a confession of faith and was baptized at an early age. She made her favorite scripture personal that is partly tattooed on her arm from Nehemiah 8:10 “Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Tanya attended Columbus Elementary School in Chester, PA, Main Street School in Upland, PA, and Concord High School, in Wilmington, DE. After finishing high school she focused on pursuing her career interests as a Nursing Assistant, as she always had a love for caring for people. Her love for people shined through in everything she did. She was most recently employed by Gray Hawk Home Care and while she was in the hospital the patients she once cared for continued to call and express so much concern about her condition, just a testament to the person she was. Everywhere she went and with every person she encountered she brought love & light. It was very hard to be sad around Tan, even when she was struggling she did everything she could to bring happiness to others. When Tan wasn’t working she enjoyed spending time with her family and of course her fur babies, that she loved so dearly. Tan was the life of the party and she was going to bring a party wherever she went because she didn’t have an “inside” voice. Family events just won’t be the same without hearing her yell the unique nicknames she gave family members (like Shaquita & Gweebay to name a few) or the unique things she would say when she greeted you like, Hola! or Hey Love! She leaves a rich legacy of fun, laughter, compassion and love that will be deeply missed. She was predeceased by her loving brother Steven D. Potts Jr, her step mother Betty Vaughters, grandparents Mary & Gilbert Potts Sr. and grandparents Herman & Barbara Taylor. Tan leaves a legacy of love to her mother and step-father Jacqueline and Calvin Bernard, Jr., her father, Steven D. Potts, Sr. Sister: Shanika N. Bernard-Walker (Malik), Brother Calvin J. Bernard, III (Sherell), Nieces: Zhane’ I. Bernard-Walker, Syanne M. Seth, Zaiden M. Walker, and Charli A. Bernard. Nephews: Cameron E. Bernard and Jordan M. Walker. God Daughter: Mykea Fitzgerald. And a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
