Robert L. Driggins

Robert LaFenus Driggins (Bob), of New Castle, Delaware, formerly of Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away at home on August 15, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished. Born on December 13, 1958, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late Elayne Pierce Driggins and Charles P. Driggins. He graduated from Chester High School in the Class of 1976 and went on to build a life defined by devotion, joy, and deep connection. Bob proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1979, carrying the strength, discipline, and pride of the Corps throughout his life. A hardworking man with an unmatched work ethic, Bob held several jobs over the years. He worked for ChesPenn, Kamco, Suburban Cable, DART Paratransit, the Christina School District as a bus driver, and Amazon. He was also a proud member of Local 312, working on the construction of the Blue Route. Bob was an early riser, always up and ready for work, and he truly loved to work — it was part of his identity and a source of pride. Bob’s true gift was the way he brought people together. He was fun loving, outgoing, the life of the party, and a natural icebreaker who never met a stranger. He loved meeting people, making them laugh, and making them feel welcome wherever he went. He was also a master barbequer, known for his skill at the grill and the gatherings that followed — full of laughter, good food, and togetherness. He loved cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, celebrating every win with enthusiasm. Above all, Bob was a family man. He believed deeply in family unity and always wanted everyone to get along. His greatest joy came from being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and his love for his family was unwavering. In his later years, Bob began attending Community Baptist Church more regularly alongside his wife. He was still finding his way, exploring faith at his own pace, and embracing the comfort and community it offered. In November 2025, Bob became ill with cancer, but he faced his illness with remarkable strength and determination. He was a fighter to the very end, showing the same courage and resilience that defined his life. Bob leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Gladys C. Driggins, whom he affectionately called “Queen Mother.” He is survived by his daughters: Roberta Janell Morgan, Salena M. Taylor (Matt), and Katrina D. Driggins. He is also survived by his siblings: Charlota Byrd, Charles (Chuck) H. Driggins, and Theron Shawn Driggins (Crystal); and his brothers in law: Hartford Saunders (Melissa) and Hollis Saunders (Jackie). Bob cherished his grandchildren: Ma’Nasjaah Morgan, Larrell Bracy Chavis Jr., Kyaire Bracy Chavis, and Ryan Taylor. He adored his great grandchildren: Ma’Layna Morgan (his #1), Ma’Kenna Morgan, Marleigh Rae Morgan, and Madalynn Morgan. He was considered by many to be Pop’s, a loving grandfather figure whose warmth extended far beyond his immediate family. Bob also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his last surviving Aunt and Uncle, Cleo Driggins-Wray (102 yrs old) and Allen Pierce (77 yrs old). He also leaves his Marine Corp. Brothers Felix Derosselle (Donna); Jessie Thomas (Cat) ; Norman Dwayne (Andrea); and Ernest Butts (Flavor). He was proceeded in death by his parents Charles P. Driggins and Elayne Driggins, nephew Sherman L. Byrd. Jr., and Uncle Charles L. Pierce (40x). He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his love, laughter, service, and the unity he inspired. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
