Mary "Joan" C. Willis

Mary Joan Constance Willis of Folsom, PA departed this life to be with Jesus, her Savior, on August 4, 2022. Mary was known to her family as “Peaches” and to her friends as “Joan.” She was born to Matthew T. Purnell, Sr. and Ella Miller Purnell on July 1, 1941 in Berlin, MD. Joan was educated in the Worcester County School District graduating from Worcester High School with the class of 1959. After graduating, Joan moved to Brooklyn, NY and worked at various jobs. She was also employed by Pathmark Corporation as a cashier for many years. At an early age, Joan united with Bethel United Methodist Church in Berlin, MD. She later united with Christian Stronghold Church, Philadelphia, PA where she served as secretary with Women of Great Price ministry. Joan served on the Evangelism Team, Comforters’ Ministry and was a member of the Cell group in Chester, PA for many years until her health began to fail. Joan met the love of her life, Mason I. Willis of Chester, PA. They were united in marriage in 1963 (38 years of marriage). From this union were three children: Mona, Lisa and David. Joan loved the Lord and the Bible. Her most important desire was that her children, grand and great grandchildren, family and friends have a relationship with Jesus and to know him as their personal Savior. She loved listening to gospel music, completing word searches, gardening flowers, watching game shows, classic detective stories, old movies and loved talking to family and friends. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband Mason I. Willis, sister Sandra Wade, brothers William and Matthew Purnell, Jr. She leaves behind to cherish her memory three children: Mona Willis-Queen, Lisa Navarro (Damian) and David Willis. Five grandchildren: William Whitaker, Ashlee Queen, Clifton Queen, Jr., Avant Navarro and Christion Willis. Four great grandchildren: Shayla Whitaker, Lillianna Reyes Whitaker, Cameron Reyes Whitaker, and Sophia Reyes Whitaker. Her sisters: Jean Morris and Joyce Purnell, and brother Eddie Purnell. Two sisters-in-law: Judith Purnell and Maxine Willis. One brother-in-law Troy Wade; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
