Margaret Reed

Margaret Mitchell Reed was the daughter of the late Bertha Simeul-Mitchell & Willie Mitchell. She was born on April 7, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA. Margaret was a 1969 graduate of Chester High School. After graduation, she was employed by Ship-n-Shore, Franklin Mint, Delaware Valley HMO, Keystone Mercy East and most recently worked for State Representative(’s) Thaddeus Kirkland and Brian Kirkland respectfully for over 20 years. Margaret was a faithful member of St. Daniels United Methodist Church in Chester, PA. She participated in the Trustee, Mass Choir, Worship music team and Finance Ministries. argaret was community-minded and always willing to help. She collaborated with the founding Juneteenth committee, served as a minority inspector on election day, participated in the fundraising team for the Chester City Democratic Committee, volunteered at St. Luke C.C. Church as a line dance instructor, and served on the tenant council at her residence. She also served as Vice-President of the advisory board at the Chester Senior Center and a board member of the Delaware County Pregnancy Center. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting, watching scary movies, and spending time with family and friends. Margaret really loved collecting frogs! If you visited her workplace or residence, you would observe her extensive collection of frog-related items. She was an avid pet lover. On Saturday, February 8, 2025, God peacefully called her home to receive her wings. We are grateful to our Creator for the precious time we had together as family and friends. Margaret was a woman of faith and represented God with excellence by applying the Word of God throughout her life. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Bertha Simeul-Mitchell & Willie Mitchell, her foster parents George & Agnes Williams, sister Victoria Gadson, foster sister Brenda Futrell & longtime companion Eugene Cottman Sr. Margaret leaves to cherish her memories, sisters, Geraldine Cottman (Harry Sr.) of Chester, PA, Geneva Gamble ( of Valdosta, GA), brothers David and Vincent Simeul (Philadelphia, PA), foster sister Melanie Henson (Kenny) of Chester, PA and God-son Conrad Chambers Sr. (Chester, PA ). Best friends Livia Smith (Chester, PA), Donna Johnson (Claymont, DE), and Sheila Smith (Chester, PA), and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Margarets favorite scripture was PSALM 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth.
