Lennie J. Jenkins Sr.

HIS LEGACY Lennie James Jenkins Sr., known for his infectious humor, boundless energy, and deep love for life, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 25, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Rose Lee Wilkins and the late James Jenkins. Lennie was blessed to be raised by the late “ever-so-lovely” Emma Richardson, whom he proudly called Mom. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gwendolyn and Emma, and his stepdaughter, Rhonda. Lennie was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated a year early from West Philadelphia High School — a testament to his intelligence and determination. Even as a young child, Lennie demonstrated a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Disliking the feeling of “being broke,” he started his own shoeshine business on Sansom Street while still in elementary school. Later in life, he was employed at Allenwood Steel and went on to work for many years at Boeing. Lennie married Carletta in 1971, and from that union, they had one son. Years later, he met Beatrice, and together they lovingly raised five children. Later in life, he entered into a relationship with Stephanie, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised her daughter as his stepdaughter. Lennie was raised in West Philadelphia and was a proud product of Hobart Street. He was known as "The General" on the block for the past 50 years — a nickname reflecting his commanding presence and the respect and admiration he inspired. Charismatic and always the life of the party, Lennie made sure everyone had a good time. He loved all Philadelphia sports teams — especially the EAGLES — and was a die-hard fan. Lennie was the kind of person who lit up every room he walked into. With a quick joke and an easy smile, he brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. A dedicated and hardworking man, Lennie put his heart into everything he did — but he never let work stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. He loved to travel, always looking for his next adventure, and never turned down a good meal. Whether exploring new places, sharing stories, or gathering around the table with loved ones, Lennie embraced each day with gratitude and enthusiasm. His legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked and the memories he created. To know him was to love him. His presence was a source of stability, and his wisdom and generosity will be deeply missed. Lennie leaves to mourn:  His loving companion, Beatrice  His sister, Ann Hunter  His children: Lennie Jr., “Manny” (Yasmeen), Rochelle, Lenetrice (Chris), and Beance’  Three stepchildren: Ian, Ronald, and Rayonna (Curtis)  His grandchildren: Jazmyn, Lennae, Tair, Makayla, Alpha James, Charmaine, Michael, Mikiyah, Rameak, Ayjaee, Nyshadae, Shavaryea, Sani, and Curtis “CJ”  His great-grandchildren: Christina, Semaj, Jyseam, and Jysiah  His great-great-grandchild: Skylar Rose  And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
