Kimberly C. Davis

Kimberly Christina Riley-Davis, resident of Maple Lawn, Maryland, passed away on June 18, 2026, at the age of 62 after courageously facing a prolonged illness. She was surrounded by the love of her family and friends, with her devoted husband, Elmer Davis, faithfully by her side. Born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, Kimberly was an active member of the St. Daniels United Methodist Church where she served as an acolyte, sang in both the Children’s and Youth Choirs, and for a period served as Acting President of the St. Daniels Youth Group. In 1981, Kimberly graduated from Chester High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a highly competitive member of Scott’s Hi-Q, a high school quiz competition like Jeopardy, thus sparking her life-long love for the show. Kimberly was a member of the Chester High School Marching Band where she played the flute and performed with the Color Guard. Upon graduating high school, Kimberly attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years before transferring and becoming a proud Spelman woman. Kimberly graduated from the esteemed Spelman College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Studies. Kimberly was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc., initiated into the Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter, Memphis, TN in May 2002. In 2008, Kimberly wed the love of her life, Elmer. For over 35 years Kimberly worked for State Farm Insurance as a Claims Specialist, mostly on the Weather and Catastrophe Claims Service team, deployed all over the country using her compassion, knowledge, and skills to assist those dealing with losses when natural disasters struck. An advocate and supporter of a variety of issues, including voting rights, Kimberly served as a Chief Judge for the Howard County Board of Elections working to ensure that those living in her community could easily participate in their civic responsibility. Kimberly rarely met someone she did not connect with in a significant way. Although it is difficult to describe her in a few words, there is no doubt she was loving, independent, funny, intelligent, generous, and she had a great zest and appreciation for life. Many know her as a great cook, talented baker, and an avid fan of Jeopardy and Top Chef. She was also a book lover with an appreciation for political commentary and substantive debate. Kimberly loved to travel. Brazil, Argentina, Greece, Cyprus, Paris, and London are just some of the destinations that reflected her passion for discovering the world, where her love of history became a gateway to exploring new cultures, stories, and perspectives. Yet, her most favorite travel experience was always her annual summer pilgrimage to Martha's Vineyard. There, she flourished as she reconnected with cherished friends and family, immersed herself in the island's rich cultural and political life, and effortlessly made new friends wherever she went. It was truly her happy place. One of her favorite traditions on the Vineyard was the early morning gathering at the Inkwell with her fellow Polar Bears—a ritual of swimming, exercising, laughter, and the offering of positive affirmations to one another that perfectly reflect the optimism and generosity she brought to every day. Kimberly is survived by her husband, Elmer Davis; her son, Anthony Davis; her mother, Drucilla Freeman; her father, William Riley (Delores); her sister, Kelly Riley-Callaway (Calvin); her brother, William Riley; nephews, Gregory James Brooks and Erik William Brooks; niece, Cymberly Keith Callaway; and great niece, Ali Monet Kimberly Brooks; brother of the heart, Fr. Darrell Tiller (James); sisters of the heart, Paula Sammons and Lisa Potts; and a host of family and friends who loved and adored her and will miss her dearly.
