Karen J. Blunt

Karen Joyce Warrick Blunt was born on October 8, 1952, the third of nine children to Maurice Edmund Warrick, Sr and Evelyn Dolores Bagby Warrick. Karen was raised in a very special place known as Morton, PA. She attended Sidney Smedley School in Morton before graduating from Springfield High School, where she played intramural sports, served as a library and gymnasium student aide, and of course, spent three years as a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. After graduation, Karen married Michael Denny Blunt, Sr and enrolled at Cheyney University where she studied Business Administration. On her 21st birthday, Karen gave birth to her only child, Michael Denny Blunt, Jr. With the birth of her son, Karen unenrolled from Cheyney University to shift her immediate focus onto her family; this also marked the next phase of her extraordinary journey. Karen entered the workforce which eventually led to her climbing the employment ladders at PECO (formerly Philadelphia Electric Co.) and Delaware County Courthouse, where she spent over a decade at each. All the while, Karen relentlessly pursued her educational aspirations by completing coursework at Keystone Business School (now The Chubb Institute – Springfield), Cheyney University, and Drexel University, before she ultimately earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cabrini College on May 18, 1997, at the age of 44. Karen also had a passion for entrepreneurship. She was a vendor at flea markets, conceptualized consumer products in her spare time, and founded Executive Catering, a small business providing event planning and catering service. As much as she enjoyed working, learning, and being an entrepreneur, Karen loved and dedicated herself to God, her family, and her community. Whether it was attending her son’s football games, supporting events for family and friends, fellowshipping with her church community, spending time with and doting over her granddaughters, being with family at the shore, making her famous deviled eggs for meals, or simply giving you a heartwarming “hey” before she said your name, Karen just always seemed to be part of the action. We will miss her dearly. Our beloved Karen is preceded in death by her husband Michael Denny Blunt, Sr; father and mother Maurice and Dolores Warrick; and brother Maurice Edmund Warrick, Jr. She is survived by her son Michael (wife-Laurie); granddaughters (Laila and Mia); sisters (Deborah, Janet, Nancy, Gloria, and Kimberly); brothers (Douglas and Brian); aunt (Holly); and uncle (Harry); as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and loved ones.
