Life and Legacy of Apostle Joyce E. Scott Apostle Joyce Elizabeth Scott, a gift from God, was born on October 24, 1946 to Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence H. & Mildred Robinson, Sr. She peacefully went home to be with Lord on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. She was reared and received her formal education in the Chester-Upland Public School System and was a 1965 graduate of Chester High School in Chester, Pennsylvania. The third of five children raised in a Christian home, she recognized the voice and call of the Lord at the early age of six years old. She received her early Christian education at First Pentecostal Holy Church under the pastorate of Bishop W.N. Strobhar. Having a strong desire to live a life that was pleasing unto the Lord, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at age 16. She was committed to sharing the good news of the Gospel with everyone, including her high school classmates. She would later marry and become the proud mother of three, William Jr., Destiny and Joy. While being a loving and dedicated wife and mother and with a strong desire to fulfill the call of God upon her life, she attended the Jamison Bible Institute and furthered her studies at Deliverance Bible Institute where she became an ordained minister under the late Dr. Benjamin Smith of Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Philadelphia, PA, where she was a faithful member. She then moved with her family to Tulsa, OK to continue her ministerial training at Rhema Bible Training Center and upon completion received her pastoral license and ordination from the late Dr. Doyle “Buddy” Harrison of Faith Christian Fellowship International Church. After returning to Chester, she began a weekly bible study and intercessory prayer meeting at Sleeper Business College. The bible study and intercessory prayer was the catalyst for Faith Christian Fellowship of Chester (aka New Life Ministries) which she founded in March 1983. The ministry grew and thrived under her leadership and would later become New Life Ministries International (NLMI) a spiritually vibrant ministry rooted and grounded in the Word of God with prayer, faith and a dedication to the love walk as the foundation. She moved the location of the church from Sleeper’s to the Franklin Firehouse, then the YWCA and YMCA then back to YWCA until 1993 when the Spirit of the Lord led her to the current location: 10 W 7th Street. In 1997 she received the Honor of Doctorate of Divinity from United Christian College in Goldsboro, NC. Being a woman of integrity and commitment to character, she was consecrated and affirmed to the office of Apostle in accordance with the Holy Scriptures in 2010. She was a visionary leader, socially-active entrepreneur and life coach. As a gifted communicator, her teaching of the Word of God brought empowerment, strength, and development of the whole man; spirit, soul, and body by delivering sound biblical truths with simplicity. Her generous heart of compassion and love helped to bring a better quality of life, not only to the members of her family and the NLMI church family but to those in surrounding communities, the nation and the world. Fueled with divine passion, she helped the hurting to change their mindsets, rebuild their lives and overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. For these tireless efforts both in America and around the world, she has received numerous citations and proclamations from ministries, community organizations, as well as city and state governments. Apostle Scott was uniquely equipped to work one-on-one with individuals, pastors, and other leaders as a skilled life coach. Affectionately referred to as a “life coach to many,” and a “pastor to pastors,” she was widely known for her wisdom to assess needs and give practical tools to others that helped them navigate through life’s challenges. Apostle Scott’s passion to help others extended into the educational and business arena, where she sat on the prestigious Neumann University Advisory Board for its Center for Community Leadership and Entrepreneurship. She has also traveled extensively ministering the Word of God giving people the tools needed for living a victorious life in Christ. She has helped establish Christian schools and churches, which educated and provided much needed medical assistance to over 3,000 children. Apostle Scott was the overseer of several ministries within the United States, South Africa and West Africa. Her multifaceted ministry has taken her to the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Trinidad, Israel, Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, as well as into Ghana, Nigeria and Liberia. Moreover, in Southern Africa, she has ministered in Zimbabwe, Swaziland, and many South African cities and towns, including Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg and Soweto. In recognition of their ongoing social concern and contributions, Apostle Scott was among a team of ministers from different countries who were honored by being invited to meet with the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations to discuss South African issues. Apostle Scott’s objective, in keeping with the mission of her outreach, “Project Vision” was to carry out the special mandate given to her by God, to reach the city of Chester, to train and develop warriors in the realm of the spirit, whereby the Kingdom of God can be established and the commission fulfilled, which is “Reaching the World with New Life.” Apostle Scott loved spending time with those nearest and dearest to her. She valued quality time and having fun with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, parents and siblings. She enjoyed family gatherings, meals and vacations. Any family member could tell you how much she enjoyed shopping, doing hair, make-up and fashion. Whenever needed, she was always there to pray, discipline, give guidance, direction and love. Apostle Scott was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Robinson, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy: her parents, Lawrence H. and Mildred Robinson, Sr. of Chester, PA; one son, William L. Scott, Jr. of Chester, PA; two daughters, Destiny Faith of Decatur, GA and Pastor Joy D. Jones (Marlon) of Chester, PA; one brother, Rev. Donald Robinson (Tara) of Aston, PA; two sisters, Elaine Bell (Thomas) of Chester, PA, Cheryl Potts (Michael) (Essex, MD); five grandchildren, Shakynah Hunt and Gregory Hunt of Chester, PA, Mahtee’ Davis, Saveion Hunt and Praisha Hunt of Decatur, GA; 3 great-grandchildren Tanai, Samaj and Milan and a host of nieces and nephews. As well as her New Life Ministries International family and a host of spiritual sons and daughters and friends worldwide.
