Darrell Darling

Darrell Darling was born on the 18th of October 1949 to the late Frank Hicks and Rose Darling, in Chester Pennsylvania. At an early age Darrell’s grandmother, affectionately known as Mother Darling to some and Momma to her grandchildren ensured that he and his brothers and sisters understood and knew the love of God, therefore he began his bible education at Range Temple Church of God and Christ in Chester. Darrell was educated in the Chester Upland School District, graduating from Chester High School in 1967. While in middle school and during high school Darrell dated Marva Davis, whom he married in June 1968, from that union Darrell and Marva were blessed with two daughters, Felice and Valarie. In May 1970 Darrell enlisted in the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. After serving in the war Darrell was stationed in El Paso, TX. Then, in 1972 Darrell was honorably discharged from the Army, and began traveling all over the United States finding his home in Houston, TX. This is when Darrell began his career at The Texas House, as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor where he worked for 20 years. Then in 2007 went on to work for the Veteran’s Administration, working with homeless veterans who suffered with drug addiction and mental illness, until he retired. Darrell absolutely loved his family and was a constant source of support and love, he will be missed immensely, he leaves to cherish is memory, daughters Felice Darling, Valarie (Darling) Pittman and Charray Davis, grandchildren LaToya Irving, Glen Pittman, Jr., Daniel Pittman, Andre (Chaslynn) Pittman, Timothy Pittman, Trinis Robinson, Jr., Aaron Robinson, Hervans Bourguillon and Journe Morgan, two Great-grandchildren Aaliyah and Andre Pittman, sisters Veronica Cottman, Demaris Jones, brother Roderick Darling, nieces, Sandra (Curtis) Jeffries, Roseann Calloway, Verselle Cottman, LaTanya (Maurice) Henderson, LaKiesha Sturdivant, Veronica Sturdivant, Tia (Tarus) Davis, Deena Stills, and a host of cousins and friends. Preceded in death by brother Gary Darling and nephew William Cottman, Jr. Darrell had a caring and kind heart; he was generous and supportive. So many looked up to him; he was loved and is still loved by everyone who crossed his path. He was very inquisitive and liked learning new things and coming up with inventions and ways to have his own business, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching movies, eating hoagies and cheese steaks whenever he could get them from his hometown and in his own words he loved “goofing off”.
