Life Reflections The Obituary On June 14, 1954, Charles Simmons Jr. was born in Union Springs, Alabama, to the The magnificent Mattie L . Toogood and Charles Simmons Sr. He was educated in the Chester Upland School District. Charles was the first of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Earkles Capers. Affectionately known as “Charlie,” he was raised in Chester, Pennsylvania. Charlie was spirited, outgoing, and full of life—a true people person. He enjoyed a wonderful life with his devoted fiancée, Juanita Buckley. Together, they shared many special moments, dancing, watching movies, rooting passionately for his favorite team—the Dallas Cowboys—listening to The Whispers, and spending quality time with family. Life Journey Charles dedicated most of his life to hard work in construction. He took great pride in his career and spent many years employed by Knights Brothers Tree Service, where he later retired. In 1973, Charles was united in holy matrimony to the late Angela McCormick. From this union, a beloved daughter, Geneva Geraldine Simmons was born. Charles would go on to have more children whom he cherished deeply: Shonita Boyce, Tamia Simmons, Takeya Simmons, and Joshua Woods. He expressed unconditional love for his children through his support, guidance, and presence in their lives. Sunset On August 13, 2025, Charles peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by his family at Riddle Memorial Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Geneva Hayward (Jason Hayward Sr.), Shonita Boyce, Tamia Simmons, Takeya Simmons, and Joshua Woods; his grandchildren: Jason Jr., Justin, and Joshua Hayward, Jahziy Simmons, and Synceare Boyce-Holley; his great-grandchildren: Ava Rose, Nyla, and Jase Hayward; his devoted fiancée, Juanita Buckley; his loving sister, Tuesday Capers; his brothers: Richard Simmons, Carnell Capers, Jerry Capers, Ronnie Capers, and Mac Capers; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Charles’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
