Bennie L. Cox

Bennie Lee Cox was born on June 19, 1938, in Burke, Georgia to the late Walter Edward Cox, Sr. and Mozell Hughes Cox. He attended the Chester School District and graduated from Chester High School in 1956. He also maintained close friendships with his Dewey Mann Elementary School family, often attending reunions and staying in touch with classmates. Bennie is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Cox, Nancy Thomas, Lewis Cox, Wanita Cox, and Louise Brown, Brothers-in-law, Charles Marshall, Bernard Neal, and Hezekiah Deligar, Jr. (Sarah), Sisters-in-law, Alvirta Cox, Louise Burton, and Doris Brown, Stepchildren, Dorelda Lathem, Donald Wesley, David Wesley, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is predeceased in death by his wife, Catherine Deligar Wesley-Cox, his parents, his brothers, Willie Cox, Albert Cox, Fred Cox, Walter Cox, and his sisters, Mary Cox-Neal, Celestine Marshall, Janetta Cox, and Alease Lodge, and his beloved dog, Ladi. Bennie enlisted in the United States Army in 1962. He was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas. Bennie was honorably discharged from the Army in 1964. During his time in the Army, he received the Good Conduct medal, Sharpshooter (rifle medal), Marksman (carbine) medal, and a Letter of Commendation. In 1964, Bennie started working for Scott Paper Company (now known as Kimberly Clark Corporation). He worked at Scott Paper (Kimberly Clark) in the Eddystone plant foam and then molded containers division, until he was promoted to Research and Development laboratory. He retired from Kimberly-Clark corporation in October 1995. Prior to his employment at Kimberly Clark, he worked at Aldan Rug Mills and Phoenix Steel company. Bennie was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. When Bennie moved to South Carolina, he frequently spoke on the phone to his siblings, family members, and friends to discuss politics, sports, and get updates on the latest news. Bennie was always caring and generous, often helping in any way he could. He was the “MacGyver” of the family, who could always figure out how to fix things and solve any problem. You know you would be a “captive audience” for at least an hour anytime he wanted to explain something to you. Bennie also loved to collect things, from an early age. He enjoyed collecting coins, cars (both real and model), and other unique items. He especially loved one of his earlier cars, a 1964 Pontiac GTO. He also enjoyed ordering all sorts of products online. Bennie was a genuine person with a memorable smile and laugh, which will never be forgotten. Whenever he heard something humorous, he would reply with “That’s funny!” He also fondly greeted close family members with “Hey you clown!” He showed his thoughtfulness and kindness to his family, friends, and neighbors alike.
