Anthony A. Bentley

Anthony André Bentley, was born on May 28, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Affectionately called André by most and Tony by some, he was known for his quick wit, wisdom, and unforgettable personality. André was raised in the Catholic faith, where his early years were shaped by the church and the Catholic School System. He served as an altar boy and was known for excelling in Latin during these years. He also participated in Catholic Youth Organization athletics demonstrating his determination, agility and natural talent. He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School, where he distinguished himself academically and in leadership, organizing the first known school walk-out after Dr. King's assassination. After graduating, André continued his education earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Maryland. While there, he proudly joined Gamma Phi Omega Fraternity, forming a brotherhood of lifelong bonds and memories. André went on to build a successful career in finance, dedicating many years of service before retiring from Wells Fargo. He was respected for his work ethic, professionalism, and the knowledge he generously shared - helping to shape the careers of many others. Known for his unique brand of humor and perspectives on life, André was always ready with thoughtful, and often frank, advice or a wild story. He definitely pulled no punches. And his presence, like his smile, could brighten any room. On October 13, 2007, André married the love of his life, Sheila Malveaux-Bentley. Together they shared a love of cooking, reading, traveling and a ridiculous amount of laughter. Referred to as the Nutty Buddies, their marriage was a partnership filled with love, loyalty, and devotion - two peas in and inseparable pod. André peacefully passed on March 4, 2026, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Iris Bentley; his father, Eugene Bentley; and his sons, Raché and Jelanne Bentley. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sheila Malveaux-Bentley; children, André (Davita) and Amber; and special bonus children, Nikiesha, Stacey, Courtney, and Steven (Nichole) who affectionately referred to him as Pop. He is also survived by his siblings, Keith and Charmagne; sister/cousin Yvette; cherished nieces Katrina and Chantell; and his extended family of brothers and sister from another mother— Jai, Nate, Steve, Rick, John and Donna—along with 14 grandchildren, many relatives, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched. Anthony André Bentley’s legacy is one of resilience, strength, humor, and love. His guidance leaves a lasting impression on many who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
