Mary Helen Green
September 26, 1934 - January 31, 2021
Mary Helen Green 86, went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2021 at home peacefully surrounded by family. All of her friends and family affectionately knew her by Helen. Helen was born in Washington, North Carolina to the late John Lyna and Mary Freeman on September 26, 1934. For her early education Helen attended school in Washington, NC and Brooklyn, NY. Later furthering her education at Delaware County Community College in Media, Pa. She is predeceased by her husband Booker T. Green. From that union she had her first daughter, Jacquelin. Years later she welcomed her second daughter, Angela Evans. For many years Helen was employed by Bell of Pennsylvania in Upper Darby, Pa. and after a long career she desired a change of pace. With an interest in law enforcement, Helen chose to become a security officer. She became a member of the security staff at Burlington Coat Factory in Springfield, Pa. During her time there, anyone who came through those doors were greeted by her smiling face. Furthering her career, she later accepted a security position with The Bourse in downtown Philadelphia, Pa. In 2005 after many years in security, Helen retired. Helen routinely enjoyed cooking, traveling and singing among other interests. However, anyone that even remotely knew her, most definitely knows how much she loved the Lord. She not only loved Him, she sang for Him every day with all her heart. Helen started out her service to the Lord attending Shiloh Baptist Church in Chester, Pa. While she was there she became a member of the gospel singing group “Awakening Echoes”. Later in life she moved to Morton, Pa., attending Shorter A.M.E. Church. During her service to Shorter, she belonged to a number of groups: Shorter Senior Choir, Edith Kimbrough Nursing Unit, the Young Women’s Auxiliary, Church Expansion Committee, the Steward Board, and the Martha Anne Jacobs Missionary Society. Helen loved to cook for her family and friends, she also did a lot of cooking for events happening at the church. When she was unable to travel to Morton to come to church, Helen attended her daughter Jacquelin’s church, Sayers United Methodist Church until she was no longer physically able. Her favorite song was Amazing Grace and her favorite scripture Psalm 91:2. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Jacquelin L. Green, and Angela P. Evans, a grandson LeShon J. Collins, a granddaughter Anta’eus R. Frisby, a host of family and friends. Lovingly & Sorrowfully Submitted, The Family
