Marie Carson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marie Jenkins Carson was born on April 19, 1930 and peacefully passed on October 18, 2019 at Taylor Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. The oldest child and only daughter of the late James Jenkins and Carrie Frazier Jenkins, Marie was brought up in a Christian home and learned the love of God at a very early age. Marie attended Chester City public schools and as she grew up, she faithfully followed the clear ‘commission’ laid out by the mother, to “always take good care of your brothers”. Marie followed this commission, serving with all of her heart. Growing up ‘on the hill’, in Chester, Marie had a circle of her dear and life-long relationships by her side who remained as close as family. Marie worked for many years at a Mushroom Factory in Kennett Square, PA as a loyal employee. She eventually married the late Emory Carson and from that union came her son, the late Melvin Emory Carson. Despite some hardships endured in life, Marie found joy in her faith and was a life-long member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Chester, PA. She served on numerous committees and in many areas of the church including as a Nurse, Missionary, Pastor’s Aide, a member of the Mass Choir and the Female Chorus, to name just a few. She found great satisfaction in her position as the ‘door-keeper’ for Calvary. Dear friends say that she knew every door, panel, nook, and drawer and that somewhere on her massive ring of keys was the one that opened each and every lock. Marie was a friend to so many. She loved being a “Tent Sister”, traveling and serving at each step of her journey. She had many church friends for whom she was also considered a ‘sister’, ‘mother’, ‘aunt’ and ‘grandmother’. She treasured these special relationships that were as dear to her as family. She absolutely loved children and would never forget to ask about their well-being, even as the decades passed. Marie was predeceased by her son Melvin, brothers Henry and Nathaniel, sister-in-law Anne, and niece Denise. She is survived by her brother Matthew, sisters-in-law Delcenia and Audrey, nephews Charles, Kevin, and Keith, and nieces Vernadine, Michelle, and Elaine. She is also survived by grand-nephews Justin and Kareem, grand-niece Kai, great-grandniece Aryonna and members of the family of her late husband. As the have years passed, her family remained a solid bedrock of her earthly life. Just as she’d received the commission to take care of her brothers, Marie therefore passes on a charge of her own to everyone in her dear circle known far and wide as a ringing endorsement to her dedication and commitment: “Everybody, now be sure to take good care of ‘Brother’”.
