Louise Spratley

Louise Spratley was born October 19, 1935 in Bennettsville, SC to Annie Samuels-Nick and Benjamin Nick. She as one eleven children and the last one to depart this earthly home. Louise childhood education began in South Carolina. She completed her education by obtaining her GED in 1982 and was proud to have her name listed as a GED graduate with Chester High School Class of 1982. Louise peacefully departed her life on August 15, 2024 at her home surrounded her family and current caretaker, Johanna Montes. Louise Spratley married John Spratley in 1952 and lived in Hopewell, VA for a while before relocating to Chester, PA in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, Louise accepted the Lord and her call to ministry (licensed as evangelist) under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Margaret L. Wortham. Louise was a true soldier in the Army of Lord and served under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Sarah M. Bailey (licensed as minister), and Bishop Samuel W. Ellis. She was elevated to elder under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Gilbert L. Snowden. Elder Louise exited the battlefield under the leadership of Rev. Dr. George W. Anderson. Elder Spratley remained a faithful member of St. Luke Community Christian Church until her declining health prevented her from attending church. Louise worked various domestic jobs but pursued her passion of private duty nursing and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She worked in Media, PA at the former Bishop Nursing Home and Fair Acres Geriatric Center, retiring in 1993 due to health issues. After retirement, Louise continued to offer a hand, give a ride, lend a listening ear, send up a hot prayer, give Biblically sound encouraging Words, and provide care for family, friends, neighbors, her children and grandchildren, as well as their friends. She embraced the young and laughed and reminisced with the seasoned family members. Her door was always open for family gatherings. She was the glue that held family together. Her love for life was God, family and friends, in that order. Louise Spratley was predeceased by her husband, John Spratley; daughters, Lucille Spratley-Brown and Loretta Spratley-Saunders; granddaughters, Carolyn Nick, Latoya Spratley and Marquita Spratley; sisters, Mary Collins, Rosa Lee Nick, Anna Mae Williams, Lillan McCrae, Dorothy Nick; brothers, Benjamin Nick, Jr, Fred Nick, Henry Nick, Dennis Nick, Willie Nick; special niece, Amanda Nick; special nephew, Freddie Nick; spiritual mother, Rev. Dr. Sarah L. Bailey; day one best friend in Chester, PA- Secelemon Coleman. Elder Spratley is survived by daughters, Rosa M. Riley (Stanley), Delores Jones (Wayne), Patricia A. Spratley (David); sons, John H. Spratley (Antoinette), Michael Spratley, Sr. (Cynthia “Lynn”); 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and longtime friend, Georgia Mae Jacobs.
