Lawrence H. Benson, Sr. (Bullets) Devoted husband, loving father, grand/great father, and a good friend Lawrence H. Benson, Sr. affectionately known as “Bullets”, passed away on January 28, 2020, at the age of 67. He was the son of the late Robert, Sr. and Agnes Benson of Chester, PA. Lawrence was one of twelve children. He was educated in the Chester-Upland School District, graduating from Chester High School in 1970. After graduating, Lawrence attended the University of Delaware, Division of Continuing Education, to cover a course in “Youth Service System” and certified in Police Firearms Training by “The National Rifle Association of America.” Lawrence was employed as a Juvenile Detention Officer, in Lima, PA from 1971-1975. He was a dispatcher at Boeing Vertol Company for four years and a Juvenile Police Officer for the City of Chester, PA for eleven years. Sergeant Benson started with the Amtrak Police Department of the Mid-Atlantic North Division as a police officer on March 17, 1986. In 1995, Benson was promoted to sergeant and remained in his position until his retirement on September 8, 2015. Lawrence married the Love of his life, Deborah Blackwell, of 49 years, from that union 5 children were born: Letitia, Yvette, Dierdre, Lawrence, Jr., and Dominique. He leaves to cherish is memories his wife, Deborah and children. He is survived by 5 sisters: Agnes Currie of Philadelphia, PA, Roberta Palmer of Yeadon, Patricia Daniels, Elizabeth Benson and Rose Benson of Chester; 6 brothers: the late Joseph Benson and Thomas Benson, Sr., with remaining brothers – Robert, Jr., William and George Benson of Chester, and Michael Benson of Bear, DE; 7 sisters-in-laws: Phyllis Benson, Lorraine Benson, Margaret Benson, Irma Benson, Gertrude Benson, Cynthia Benson, and Ruth Blackwell; 3 brothers – in-laws: Levon Currie, Sr., Gary Daniels and Vincent Leroy; 2 aunts Mary Sutton of Chester, PA and Grace Benson of Sharon Hill, PA. Lawrence has 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
