Juan J. Slater Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Juan J. Slater age 82, peacefully transitioned to eternal life at Crozer-Chester Hospital on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Juan was born May 23, 1936 in Twin Oaks, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother Annie Van Slater and his grandparents Ruth and Oscar Slater who raised him. Juan accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized and was an early member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Twin Oaks, PA. Juan attended Chichester Public Schools and graduated from Chichester High School on June 9, 1954. After High School, he furthered his education by receiving training and certifications in Electro Arc Welding and HVAC Systems. During his working years, he also received several FAA training certifications for aerospace work. Juan was employed by and retired from The Boeing Company after 34 years of service. Previous employers included Phoenix Steel Company of Claymont, DE, and Sears-Roebuck of Chester, PA. As he would proudly say, “I worked all my life.” He firmly believed in having a good education and lifelong learning. On June 16th, 1965 He married his sweetheart Carrie M. Thomas. Juan and Carrie enjoyed traveling back and forth to Cape May and Wildwood, NJ along with their family. The family spent summers at the Jersey shore and created many cherished memories. Juan took his sons, grandchildren, and other family and friends on many hunting and fishing trips. Those wonderful trips produced memories that will last a lifetime. Juan was also an awesome cook, especially when it came to barbecue. His barbecue was legendary! He cooked barbecue for several establishments around Chester, PA. His other passion was investing. Juan loved investing in stocks and mutual funds. He always took the time to explain the market and compound interest to anyone who sought his knowledge and advice. Juan loved all his family and was the protector and counselor to them all. He was the Family Patriarch in truth and spirit. Juan leaves to mourn his sons Richard Slater, (Yolanda), Fred Hamilton, (Marcella), grandchildren, Demetria Hamilton, Saleema T. Waters, Richard E. Slater Jr., Matthew J. Slater, India S. Slater, Fred Hamilton Jr., Latoya Hamilton, Michael Hamilton, four great grandchildren, sisters Ruth Ann Estep, Joyce Van, Rita Van, Mildred Washington, Brenda Alcorn, Brother Ricky Van and Cousin/Brother Delano Slater. Juan was preceded in death by his sisters Eunice Sloan, Vera Van, and Veora Van and brothers John and Author Van.
