Gloria C. Coles

July 27, 1954 - March 3, 2021

Gloria Carolyn Bentley Coles was born on July 27, 1954 in Chester Pa. to the late Joseph Hicks and Ruth D. Bentley. She comes from a family full of love and compassion with Christian roots striving to stay on the right path. As a little girl along with her mother and sisters she attended St. Paul CME Church in Chester Pa. In her adult life she joined The Christian Church of Chester but occasionally she will visit The Worship Praise Life Center. She was very fond of Bishop Kendon Gibson. Gloria was educated in the Chester Upland School District where she was a proud graduate of Chester High Class of 1973. Throughout her life she worked various jobs and was very passionate to what ever she put her mind to. Gloria also was a member of the “NA” (Narcotics Anonymous) group in Chester Pa. She attended meetings once or twice a week. She daily recited her “Serenity Prayer” thanking GOD for helping her fight her own addiction. March 14, 2021 would have made her 15 years sober,( TO GOD BE THE GLORY)! Gloria was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed shopping, going out to dine, bus trips and vacations with her family. She also loved music, dancing and lots of laughing. She was so sweet and kind but would definitely put you in your place if need be. You couldn’t push her around. Out of all this she loved and adored her only child. Then when she became a grandmother, she was ecstatic. Her two granddaughters were the light of her life. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. She always told them,” Mommy and Daddy says NO but Grandmom says YES”! Gloria peacefully entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones on March 3, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters Joyce Shaw and Viola Sharon Bentley. She leaves to cherish her sweet memory, her only child Tanya(Gregory)Powell, two granddaughters Giani Powell and Giasia Powell. One sister Jackie Boyd. Three special nieces Patricia(Barry)Shaw Golding, Caroline(Lloyd) Young and Julie Shaw. One aunt Deborah(Bruce)Miller and One uncle Alonzo Bentley. Her caretaker and second daughter Chauntae Childs along with a host of other relatives and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service Wednesday, March 17, 2020 11:00am at Range Memorial COGIC 7th. & Fulton St. Chester Pa. 19013. Final viewing & burial is private.
