Geneva E. Bagley
August 12, 1921 - April 6, 2020
Geneva Ewing Bagley, a lifelong resident of Chester, died on April 6 at the Manor Care Wallingford Nursing Home. She was 98. Mrs. Bagley, who grew up in what was then called South Chester, was a graduate of Chester High School. She held a variety of jobs, including factory and domestic work, but it was in her later years as an emergency foster care parent and then as a foster grandparent that she gained her stride. She enjoyed working with children in programs that sometimes brought them into her home on a one-on-one basis. Her last assignment was at the Stevens Childcare, where she went each day – into her 90s -- to help care for preschoolers. She enjoyed cooking, and was especially known among family and friends for her hot rolls, fried chicken, fried fish and iced tea. Mrs. Bagley was also a longtime member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her husband, Wilfred Bagley, died in 1973. Mrs. Bagley is survived by a son, Richard Bagley; two daughters, Valerie Bagley and Marlene Bagley; a granddaughter, Erin Bagley Lai (Chris); two great-grandchildren, Cody Xander Lai, and Milly Genevieve Lai; a daughter-in-law, Joscelyn Keeve Crawford; a host of other family members, and a family of friends in her congregation.
