Edward S. Godsey "Scottie"

Mr. Edward Scott Godsey, affectionately known as “Scottie” of 1213 W 7th Street, Chester PA, departed this life Friday, November 9th at Christiana Hospital. He was born August 3rd, 1925 to the late Philmore Godsey and Mary Godsey in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Edward was the only son of eight siblings. He began his formal education in Dinwiddie County school system. He later served our country through Fort Bragg earning the American Theater Service medal, EAME service medal with bronze service, Asiatic Pacific service medal, Philippine liberation service medal, and World War II victory medal. In 1948, Edward married Isabella Eggleston. Out of this union came four children, Percy, Phil, Martina and Maureen. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Chester, PA where he served on the Brotherhood. In 1990 after 30 years of employment, he retired from Boeing Helicopters where he worked as a service technician and driver to spend more time with his family, particularly his wife, Isabella and his grandson, Christofer Scott Taylor. Mr. Godsey was a strong man of great character who always looked out for his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabella, daughter, Martina Dobson, son, Phillip Godsey and seven sisters, Isabella Smith, Martha Dean, Edith Dean, Evelyn Pegram, Magaline Hopkins, Lovely Randolph, Phoebe Harrison. He was cared for by his daughter Maureen and granddaughter Christle Taylor Smith (Tony). Edward leaves to mourn: his son, Percy Godsey (Linda) of Chesterfield, VA, his loving and devoted daughter, Maureen Taylor (d. Sidney)of Townsend, DE, 10 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 10am at Bethany Baptist Church, Chester PA. Burial will follow at Haven Memorial Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Earl Foster Funeral Home.
