Rev. Dr. Hampton Evans Sr.

November 3, 1933 - March 10, 2022

Remembering the Fruitful Journey of Reverend Doctor Hampton Evans Sr. Reverend Doctor Hampton Evans Sr. was born on November 03, 1933, in Farmville, Virginia, to the late Smith Evans and Lealia Calhoun-Evans. He peacefully entered into life eternal on March 10, 2022, in the loving home environment of his devoted daughter, Yolanda (Alicia), son-in-law, Danny (Blank) Anderson, and family. After receiving his early education in the public schools of Prince Edward County, in Farmville, Virginia, Dr. Evans relocated to Chester, PA as a teenager with less than ten dollars in his pocket. At the age of 17, Dr. Evans enlisted in the Army and was severely wounded in the Korean War. With an honorable discharge in 1953, he received the Purple Heart, Five Battle Stars, and the Korean Service Medal. He would later marry and out of this union he would become the proud father of four children, Hampton Jr., Yolanda, Elvera, and Anthony. His beloved children and grandchildren, want it to be known that he was a good dad, an amazing person, and “the sharpest tack in the box!” Although stubborn and set in his ways, he was a loving grandfather. They also loved his powerful singing voice. Dr. Evans would laugh so hardily, that he filled the atmosphere with amusement! Others in his presence would actually start laughing too, not even knowing what they were laughing about. As Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” Laughter was definitely one of Dr. Evans’ great attributes. The education and specialized training that Dr. Evans accomplished, reveal a hardworking and goal-oriented lifestyle that began with him earning his GED from The Greater Chester Movement in Chester, PA. Later, he earned an Associate of Arts from the Delaware Community College in Media, PA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Our Lady of Angels College, now Neumann College, in Aston, PA. Dr. Evans also earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the Pacific Western University of Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Evans was a faithful and hardworking member of the First Pentecostal Holy Church of Chester, PA, from his youth, until his health began to fail. As an ordained elder, Dr. Evans loved to preach and teach the Word of God with fervor and embellished vocabulary. Many times, he would have to define some of the words in his sermon so that everyone could understand. Over the years, beginning at the church’s Abbott Street location, Dr. Evans served in numerous ministries and offices such as financial secretary, trustee, member of the Senior Choir, and Men’s Choir. In the Bible Church School, Dr. Evans taught the adult class for many years. During his younger years, he worked fervently in the Eastern Pennsylvania District of the United Holy Church of America. Endowed with the gift of administration, Dr. Evans held many managerial positions in his professional life, including employment at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility/Wackenhut Corrections of Thornton, PA, Community Transit in Eddystone, PA, DuPont Printing & Publishing Co., Rite Aid Corporation, and James Irving & Son, Inc. Textile in Chester, PA. He was known for being a spectacular Director of Environmental Services for the Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Furthermore, he was a Century 21 Realtor, and rented several apartments and houses in the city of Chester. Additionally, Dr. Evans’ professional affiliations were vast. To name a few, he was a notary public, president/founder of Evans Consulting Associates in Chester, PA, and member of several organizations, including the Disabled Americans Veterans (DAV), the American Association for Counseling and Development, the American Legion, and the National Association of Realtors. Dr. Evans would consistently look for ways to solve problems and to make life better for everyone. It is not surprising that in 1996 he was the endorsed candidate for State Representative of the 159th Legislative District. Dr. Evans was a delightful and aggressive trailblazer. Needless to say, Dr. Evans wore “many hats!” He was a “Jack of all trades” and impressively, a “master of many.” Yet, he would never flaunt his accomplishments, and when asked, “How are you doing Dr. Evans?,” his reply would be, “I’m working on it.” As Dr. Evans is now rejoicing , and yes, laughing, in the presence of the Lord God in heaven, his work on earth is remarkably finished! I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. ~ 2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ~ Matthew 25:21 KJV Dr. Evans was predeceased by his son, Hampton Evans Jr., daughter, Elvera Lynette Evans; and six brothers, Charles, George, Phillip, John, Morton, and James. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his legacy: four children, Yolanda A. Evans Anderson (Danny), Anthony Lewis Evans (Karen), Corey Harris (Ezinne) and Angie Evans; two sisters, Mattie West, and Alice Hines; 19 grandchildren, 49 great grands, five great great grands; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and friends.
