Doris A. Sherman-Hicks

August 15, 1944 - December 22, 2020

Doris A. Sherman-Hicks was born August 15,1944. She was the eldest daughter born to Dorothy White Sherman and John Sherman. Doris departed this life on December 22, 2020. She will be missed by her loved ones. Doris graduated from Chester High School in 1963 and for several years worked for Bell Telephone what is currently Verizon. She also worked as a secretary for Sun Ship Dry Dock in Chester Pa. She decided that she wanted more for her family and enrolled at Cheyney State College. She was active in school government and held many positions as the Senior May Class Secretary `78, The Cheyney Record School newspaper – Solicitor, Non-Resident Council Student Senator, Act101 -Skills Center -Tutor, Academic Affairs Executive Board – Member. She held several academic honors: Richard Humphreys Academic Scholarship, Who’s Who Among Students and American Universities and Academic Excellence GPA 3.4 Doris graduated from Cheyney State College (University) in May of 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the School of Business Administration with a major in Marketing. She furthered her education by taking classes at Widener University in early childhood. She worked as a Teacher/Educator in several schools in the Chester Upland School District and in the Philadelphia School District. She also taught at Girard College and Pierce Junior College. She retired after 30 plus years as an educator. She loved teaching, it was her passion and she was in her element when she was teaching her students about a particular subject. She loved all the kids in her classroom and at times had to use her own funds to purchase supplies. Doris was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill White, Clarence Sherman and Wardell Sherman. Doris leaves to cherish her memories: four sons, Robert C. Hicks Jr. (Janel), Dean Hicks, Taber Small (Jackie), Sharif Small (Alicia). three grandchildren, Jannea’ Wolff (Eric), T.J. and Brianna. Two great grandchildren, Zola and Zara. one brother, John and one sister, Lorraine and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
