Winifred L. Williams

OUR BEAUTIFUL “WINDI” WINIFRED Leila Dutton - Williams was born on April 10, 1949 to loving parents, Rev. Otho Dutton and Rev. Dr. Irene Dutton in Philadelphia, PA. On Thursday, April 6, 2023, Winifred quietly slipped away to be with her Heavenly Father. She was the youngest sister of Alfreda Dean and the late Dorothy Stewart. Her parents also preceded her in death. WINIFRED was affectionately called “ Windi” by family and friends. She attended school in the Philadelphia School System, graduating with Overbrook High School’s Class of 1966. After high school, she continued her education at Pierce Business College. WINDI accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a faithful member of Grace Memorial UAME Church in Philadelphia, PA. Grace later became Faith Memorial UAME Church in Wilmington, DE under the leadership of Pastor Lampkins. She diligently served as a Trustee, and was in charge of the Finance Committee. She had a beautiful voice and sang on the church choir and the conference choir. Windi truly loved the Lord and was a dedicated servant. She demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout her business career while working for the CIGNA Corporation in Philadelphia, PA for over 30 years. She eventually took an early retirement to take care of her mother, who was ill for some time. On January 16, 2013, WINDI married the love of her life, John F. Williams. In recent years, they relocated to Elkton, Maryland. There they shared a beautiful and loving life along with their two fur babies, Brody “Little B” and Sunny. Sunny preceded her in death. WINDI enjoyed traveling and had been to London, Paris, Bermuda, California, Illinois, Virginia and other states. When she wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping and going out to eat. Windi also loved the comforts of home where she enjoyed watching her favorite “old movies” on TV. She celebrated most holidays by decorating her table with specific ornaments, plates and napkins. The “true meaning of Christmas” was her favorite holiday. Her favorite color was red. She always painted her nails red and did not leave home without wearing her red lipstick. She was a devoted daughter, a loving wife and mother, a kind sister, a sweet aunt, a nice cousin, and the best friend in the world. WINDI leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, John Williams. Through this union she gained two daughters, Melissa L. Williams (Terrell), Mary L. Davis (Aaron) and one son, John F. Williams, Jr (Titi); two grandsons DayShawn Reed (Kaitlyn) and John F. Williams III; her sister Alfreda Dean; two sisters in law, Bertha M. Cobia (BeBe), and Burna Bryant; two godchildren, Althea Davenger-Taylor (Kevin) and Cavin Davenger III; special nieces Carolyn Stewart and Gina Jackson; a host of uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and “yes”… great, great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins; Best Sister Friend “Home” Daphne Davenger; her Church family and many beloved friends.
