Shirley J. Ginn

Shirley Jeanette Saunders Ginn, daughter of the late Ernest and Helen Saunders, departed this life on March 2, 2026. Jan, as she was called by many, was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on November 1,1934 and graduated from Chester High School in June,1952. She furthered her education by attending Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, and the Beta School in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul C.M.E. Church at that time, where she also attended Sunday School. She was an active member of St. Paul until she moved to Atlanta, Georgia in September 2003 to be closer to her daughter. While at St. Paul, she was a faithful member of the Gospel Choir and the R. T. Johnson Mass Choir. Jan also served as secretary to one of St. Paul’s former Pastors. While in Atlanta, Georgia, she joined “under watch care” Zion Hill Baptist Church in 2007 where Dr. Aaron L. Parker is the Pastor. Jan was formerly employed by Blue Cross of Philadelphia for 18 years. She then worked for Scott Paper Company (Kimberley Clark Corporation) for 19 years until her retirement in 1992. Jan took great pride in her many volunteer activities including the Chester Senior Center, The Bernadine Center, The American Red Cross and Crozer Chester Medical Center where she volunteered for 14 years. She also volunteered at the Clara Mohammed School in Atlanta, Georgia for a short period of time. She was formerly married to the late Ulysses Ginn, Jr. and from this union one daughter, Kia Denise, was born. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen E. Loper and her brother Donald E. Saunders. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Kia Ginn-Siebe, one grandson Khari Siebe and one granddaughter Koya Siebe, all of Atlanta, Georgia; sister Carolyn S. Brandon of Chester, Pennsylvania; brother Tracy G. Saunders (Apostle Elaine C) of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania; sister Maxine C. Ross of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Clementine Saunders; one Goddaughter, Gina L. Ross of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her special girlfriends Barbara E. Dennis and Geraldine Saunders. Jan lived life on her own terms, with a spirit of independence that defined her journey. She found joy in meaningful moments – attending live music and plays, sharing meals with family, spending cherished time with her sisters, and being the Philadelphia Eagles’ #1 fan. She was one of her family’s greatest cheerleaders, celebrating their accomplishments with pride and love. Whether through a thoughtful letter, an email, or a card sent just to say she was thinking of them, Jan made sure the people she loved always felt remembered and loved. Her presence, support and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
