Serena P. Lockett

Serena Paulette (Beverly) Lockett peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Serena was the eleventh of thirteen children born to the late Charles and Geneva Beverly on October 22, 1962, at Crozer Hospital. Serena was educated in the Chester Upland School District and a graduate of Chester High School, Class of 1980. In May of 1982, Serena married her life partner, Bruce A. Lockett and three children were born from this union. Affectionately known as "Rena" throughout her childhood, she had such an infectious, bright, and pleasant personality that earned her friends, praise, and workplace recognition. Serena never seemed to meet a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Serena made lifelong friends from the Ruth L. Bennett Homes and was active in community service through Bethany Baptist Church. Serena worked as a manager for the bustling 22nd St. Wawa in Chester for several years. She also worked for Crozer Chester Medical Center, as a supervisor, in the Atrium Cafe where she always had a pleasant smile or kind word for those she encountered. Serena will be remembered as a charitable force, a woman of great wisdom, and always willing to lend a helping hand to serve with a smile. Serena loved and cared for her family deeply and will be missed immensely. As she would often say, "Lord knows we're only here for a season". She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of forty-three years, Bruce Lockett Sr, one daughter, Syreeta Lockett, two sons, Bruce "Bilal" Lockett Jr (Cindy) and Brian Lockett (Natasha). Nine grandchildren: Ayhaanee, Nevaeh, Neah, Laila, Avarie, Safiya, Kyan, Ibraheem, and Tristan. One great-granddaughter Arielle. Six sisters, Charlotte Beverly, Rosalind Gray, Jennifer Beverly (Irice), Lorna Campbell (David), Lorraine Brown (Lester), Michelle "Shelly" Beverly. One brother, Fred Beverly. Lifelong friends Gwendolyn Young and Pamela P. Brown. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins extended family, friends, and colleagues. Serena was predeceased by her parents, sister, Janet Hayward, brothers James, Charles (Teddy), Michael, & David Beverly.
