Raymond A. Waller

Raymond A. Waller, affectionally known as “Deac” was a man of God with unwavering faith, strength, love, and dedication to his family and church. Born on July 16, 1936, in Gretna, Va. (Sycamore Community) to the late Esther and Cora Waller; he was the fourth of eight children in a family filled with commitment and love in the service of the Lord. Raised in the small community of Gretna, Va alongside his beloved siblings he grew up with a dedication to Christian values, hard work, and love of family. These values were instilled in him at an early age as he portrayed them throughout his adult life. Raymond was a pillar of the community, a man of integrity and faith. He volunteered to join the United State Army after attending Northside High School and spent the next three years (1955-1958) serving his country. Following travel and service around the United States and Japan his last duties took him to Swarthmore, PA. where he met the love of his life, Beatrice Miller. On February 28, 1959, the lovely couple was joined together in Holy Matrimony in Chester, PA at the home of her late Uncle Beverly and Aunt Catherine Miller. Raymond operated a service station on Flower Street for years as well as owned and operated “Wallers’ Auto Repair” in Chester a total of 46 years. He joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Twin Oaks, PA under the pastorate of Pastor Dency Richardson in 1958. Raymond served as chairman of the Deacon Board under three administrations. He also serves on the Trustee Board, Superintendent of Sunday School, Usher Board, Sunday School Teacher, Thursday Night Bible Study, Deacon’s Union, and the Evangelist Committee. He loved being in the service of the Lord. Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing with relatives and friends. In his younger days he loved drag racing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved his family, his church and would do anything asked of him with an infectious smile. He always had a word of encouragement and rendered it with love and respect. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Cora Waller, and his sister Ola Kelly. Left to cherish his memory are beloved wife Beatrice, his son Michael R. Waller, Sr.; Grandson Michael R. Waller, Jr. Twin Oaks, PA; Granddaughter Myla Waller, Grandson Marquise Waller, and (Grandchildren’s Mother) Khrista Bobbitt, Wilmington, DE; Brothers: Frank Waller, Denver, Colorado; Curtis Waller, Ted Waller (Doris): Sisters: Shirley Horn, Sarah Perry, Gretna, VA; Sheila Coleman (Robert, Jr.) Swedesboro, NJ and a host of nephew’s, nieces, cousins and friends.
