Norma F. Northington

Her life Story Norma Gans-Northington answered the call of the Master on January 31, 1922 while baking for her family at home. At the age of 89 she had no Dementia, nor Alzheimers. Although, she was challenged physically, men- tally she was on point. Norma was the 5th child of 18 siblings born to the late Henry and Thelma Gans on May 18, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, twelve siblings; Curtis Girard Gans, Sr, Thelma Gans-Von Tony, Juanita Gans- Boyland, Henry Gans III, Lorenzo Gans, Marlene Gans, Leonard Gans, Catherine Brenda Gans-Robinson, Charles Gans, John Gans, Milton Gans, and Lorraine Gans; her husband, Ledgar Vincent Northington; her daughter, Karen Northington-Wise and her great grandson Rashad Dowell preceded her in death. Norma received her education in Darby Township/Darby Colwyn School Districts. She graduated from Darby High School and the National School of Nursing. She later met and married her “childhood sweetheart” Ledgar Vincent Northington. To this union three children were born, Rosalind, Karen (deceased) and Ledgar Vincent, Jr. Norma was employed at Lanke- nau Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. She was later employed as a Private Duty Nurse. Norma was baptized at an early age by the late Pastor B.W. Watkins at First African Baptist Church of Sharon Hill, PA where she has been a dedi- cated member for over fifty years. She has actively participated in numer- ous ministries; the Eastern Stars, P.W.M. #15 O.E.S. P.H.A., B.W. Watkins Memorial, Vacation Bible School, Nurses Ministry, Sanctuary Choir, Red Hatters Society and Girl Scout Leader. One of Norma’s favorite pass-times was being a seamstress. She made Prom Dresses often for the young ladies in the community and handled sewing projects for her relatives. She often designed her own outfits, like the one you see on the front cover of your program. She’d make alter- ations to outfits she brought to add her personal touch. Norma was a true believer, knowing that with God “All things are possible.” She believed in her heart: “If I can help somebody, then my liv- ing will not be in vain.” Her favorite scripture was, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” Philippians 4:13 She leaves to cherish her memories, One daughter, Rosalind Davis (Man- ley) Sharon Hill, PA; One son, Ledgar V. Northington, Jr. (Sandra) Alden, Pa; Five Siblings, Clarence Gans (Joyce), Clara Gans-Norman, Byron Gans of Sharon Hill, PA, Bishop Joseph Gans, Temple Hill, MD, Gregory Gans, (Yolanda), Philadelphia, PA. She also leaves to cherish her memory nine grandchildren; Manley Davis, Jr., Chrystal Wise, Vincent Northington, Kendall Horne, Tyra Davis-Tucker (James), Caprice Wise, Donrick Northington, Faith Davis, her devoted grandson, David Wise; 20 Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances in the Darby Township Community.
