Marquis R. Maynor

Marquis Raheim Maynor, a beloved soul with a vibrant spirit, was born on July 29, 1982, in the heart of Philadelphia, PA. He departed this earthly realm on October 17, 2023, in Chester, PA, finding eternal peace. Throughout his life, Marquis was known by many names, reflecting the many roles he played in the lives of those who cherished him. To some, he was Marquis, Keese, Baby, Daddy Keese, or Cupcake. Yet within the intimate circle of family, he was affectionately known as Pretty Ricky. His educational journey led him through the halls of the Chester Upland School District, where he exhibited remarkable strength and athleticism, excelling in sports such as basketball, track, and football. In June 2001, he proudly graduated from Chester High School, leaving a legacy of sportsmanship. Marquis’ heart overflowed with love for his family, especially his dear brother, Marlon. His love for Marlon was nothing short of extraordinary, as he shielded him even from their mother's stern hand. He was the embodiment of "I've got this, Mom!" In the same way that Marquis was unwavering in his protection of Marlon, his dad protected him. The older Marquis became, the stronger the bond grew between him and his dad. His protective instincts extended beyond the schoolyard, where Marquis stood resolute against anyone who dared to trouble Marlon. No matter the odds, if Marlon sought his aid, those tormentors knew they were in for a reckoning. When it came to defending Marlon, age and size held no power; Marquis was unwaveringly "His Brother's Keeper." Marquis’ employment journey was a tapestry of diverse experiences, including positions at the Keystone Center, Tastykake, Panera Bread, and Foster Funeral Home. Eventually, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing a flourishing landscaping business that graced the homes of many in Toby Farms, Marcus Hook, and Chester. Marquis grew up in Toby Farms, Pa. In the Farms, Keese had many friends, whom he loved dearly and they loved him as well. The heart of the Maynor family gatherings was in Holy City, a place where joyful moments unfolded. With Marquis’ arrival, the atmosphere brimmed with mirth and delight. He had a unique gift for rallying all the children, from the Brown Willis Boys to Deuce, Aiden, Quanna, TT, and more. With the youngest perched on his broad shoulders and another held by the hand, he led the way to the store for chips, candy and juice. Marquis also had a knack for charming the little girl cousins and engaging in spirited wrestling matches with the boys. He was adored by them all. In addition to his love for children, he cherished his canine companions, Roxie, Fiona and Harley. Marquis’ pride was unmistakable, even as a student. His mother diligently packed his lunch, but little did she know that these lovingly prepared meals ended up in the trash before school. Cool Keese was determined to uphold his image, unwilling to be seen with a bag lunch. Life, for Marquis, was a precious gift to be cherished. He reveled in the beauty of good music, the joy of dancing, the delight of good food and the warmth of shared moments with family and friends. He was the heartbeat of any gathering, infusing it with life and laughter. Teeda was Marquis’ older sister, and being the oldest, she sometimes didn’t have time for her little brother. But when they found out how each other liked to party, they let the good times roll. Marquis was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Marlon Hassan Maynor; his grandmother Doretha Jackson; and his uncle, Roosevelt Jackson Hines. Marquis leaves behind a legacy of love. His memory will be cherished by his parents, William and Yvonne Maynor; his sister, Antoinette Gordy (James); his nephews, James Gordy, Jr. and Tamir Chambers; his niece, Jaquanna Jacobs (Thomas); his aunts, Berta Ricks, Deborah Jackson, and Jacqueline Willis; and the love of his life, LaSheena, along with her three children, Deshon (King), Lashona (fondly known as "Mouth Almighty"), and Journee (whom he affectionately called "Fat-Fat"). Marquis also leaves behind a host of cousins, Jeray, Jermel, Jamar, Jermaine, Jamaal, Norman, and Roland, his extended family and cherished friends. Marquis Raheim Maynor’s memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know and love him. He brought joy, protection and a lively spirit to all he encountered.
