Kenneth R. Mathis

“Whereas It as pleased Almighty God in His wise Providence to remove from our Midst our Beloved Kenneth “Kenny” Rudolph Mathis, we the family, deeply mourn his departure from this earth but we take heart in knowing he is at rest.” Kenny was born in Chester, PA, on March 27, 1954 to the late Lee and Mamie Mathis. He departed this life peacefully on September 20 2022. Kenny was educated in the Chester Upland School District and graduated from Chester High School in 1973. During his years at Chester High School, Kenny excelled in track and is still regarded as one the fastest runners in the sport of track and field. Because of Kenny’s exceptional athletic abilities, he was offered multiple scholarships from various colleges. After attending the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Kenny joined Laborers Union Local 413 where he worked for over 30 years. Kenny wore many hats during his tenure at the Local. After retiring from Local 413 on February 12, 2011, Kenny looked forward to all the retiree events held at the hall to fellowship with old friends and most of all EAT! Kenny loved his grandson. Ari was like the son he never had. He looked forward to his Tuesday and Thursday school pickups where he was always one of the first in the car line. Every Tuesday and Thursday he would take Ari to Walmart for a toy and then to McDonalds for an afternoon treat. Even when Kenya said, “Dad no more toys”, Kenny would hide them in his home. Kenny was an Avid Philadelphia Eagles Fan but more than watching the Eagles, he loved his yearly birthday dinners at Red Lobsters (Yes with an “S”). Even when his daughter offered other restaurants Kenny said NO! He was loved the Blackwell family where he was “Uncle Kenny”. It was not unusual to find him at any of their homes fixing a plate at all of their family gatherings. Kenny was predeceased by three sisters, Hattie Mathis, Alberta Mathis and Linda Mathis; 5 brothers, John Lee Mathis, Frank Mathis, George Mathis, Spencer Mathis and Calvin Mathis. He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted Daughter, Kenya Mathis, his beloved grandson, Ari, two bonus sons Clarence Blackwell and Dennis Blackwell. His siblings, Clarence Mathis (Gloria), Stanley “Mickey” Mathis, and Rosemary Mathis, two sister-in-laws Elaine Mathis, Diana Mathis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering and the time has come for my departure.
