It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John “Peter” Ferguson Murray, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 64. Peter was born on April 1, 1962, in Media, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph Rudolph Murray and Elizabeth (Wilson) Murray. His life, though brief in years, was rich in love, laughter, and profound connections. Peter’s educational journey began at Media Elementary School and continued through Penncrest High School. It’s while he attended Penncrest High School, he developed a strong work ethic and mastered the discipline of perseverance. A true jack-of-all-trades, Peter’s career spanned an impressive 47 years. Working as a sanitation engineer, junk removal specialist, landscaper, painter, mover, asbestos abatement contractor, property management, and healthcare provider, no task was too small or too daunting for him. He approached each job with dedication and a commitment to excellence, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Peter meant his lovely wife while working at Beckman Coulter Diagnostics. Peter shared a wonderful life with his loving wife of 22 years, Brenda (Jenkins) Murray. Their journey began with a whirlwind courtship culminating in a beautiful marriage on September 4, 2004 at Saint Barnabas Bethsaida UMC in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Rev. Dr. Allen G Jenkins Jr. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth and joy. A devoted family man, Peter was a proud father to Chanel (Yusef) Simpson, Andre Jones, Eboney Jasmine (John Robertson) Jones, Marcus Murray, Sean Murray, Dante Murray, and Danine Jenkins. He cherished every moment with his family, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Peter was also a doting grandfather to 15 grandchildren each of whom brought immense joy to his family. Peter's family extended beyond his immediate household, and he shared a deep bond with his siblings, Louise (John) Patterson, Howard (Sharnel) Murray, Joseph (Debbie Walters) Murray, Ivy Bowan, brother-in-law Allen (Benjamina) Jenkins, and sister-in-law Patricia (Samuel) Carter, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Siblings that preceded him in death Mamye Tolbert Fitzgerald, Bertha Tolbert Wright, Mike Tolbert, Roxanne Rosetta Murray Davis, and brother-in-law, Franklin D. Fitzgerald Sr. Also, Preceding him in death is his son, Marcus Murray, and grandson, Keyontae Jones-Ricks. The love and laughter shared with his family were central to Peter’s life. An active member of his community, Peter played football at the tender age of eight for Rose Tree Media, displaying the same vigor and enthusiasm he carried into adulthood. Peter had a gift for making people feel valued. He was known for his engaging smile, generosity, and great tipping, traits that endeared him to many. Peter was a man of many interests, with a love for traveling, dancing, and spending time with family and close friends. His presence on the dance floor was a testament to his joyful spirit and zest for life. He created a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. As we say goodbye to Peter, we honor a life lived with grace, humor, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends as a beacon of love and warmth that will guide them through the days ahead. Rest in peace, dear Peter. Your legacy of love, kindness, and joy will forever remain in our hearts.
