Jerry B. West

Jerry Bernard West was born May 17, 1954 in Halifax, Va. to the late Berkley L. West and Bobbie West Kennedy. He peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on July 11, 2025. Jerry attended Chester County schools and graduated from Chi Chester High School in 1972; he held various jobs in Delaware county until he retired. Jerry was devoted to his family. Although he never married nor had children of his own, he helped raise all of his nieces and nephews. Uncle Jerry (affectionately called) was the life of the party for our family. He loved to cook, dance and sing. He had a heart of gold, and he would do anything for anyone. He was a fierce defender of the family. He was kind and welcoming to everyone, sometimes goofy and funny, and a firecracker at the same time if you crossed him. Jerry is survived by his sister and brother, Gale West Henderson (✝️ Larry) of District Heights, Md. and Marvin A. Williams Jr. (Ana) of Brownsville, Tx. He is also survived by a very special great niece whom he helped raise from birth to present (Kayla), (3) Godchildren, Kendon, Kenton and Meagan Gibson of Chester, Pa., (10) nieces and nephews; Marvin III, LaToya, Julius, Ashley, Ebonie, Marquee, Christopher, Andy, Amanda and Anissa; (25) great nieces and nephews and (5) great great nieces and nephews; (1) aunt Gladys Daniel of Halifax, Va.; (3) motherly cousins, Toni Williams of South Carolina, Barbara Williams of Temple Hills, Md. and Gwendolyn Adam’s of Wilmington, De., and a host of cousins and friends. Special thanks to John Roberts, Jeannette Smith and Glenn Clarke for taking the time out of their busy lives to consistently visit and spend time with Jerry at the nursing home, especially when family members could not be there. Your expression of love and care will forever be etched in our hearts, and we know Jerry appreciated it. Poem- Don’t cry for me. Don’t cry for me, I’ll be okay; heaven is my home now and this is where I’ll stay. Don’t cry for me I’m where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to be strong. Don’t cry for me, it was just my time but see you someday on the other side. Don’t cry for me, I’m not alone, the angels are with me to welcome me home. Don’t cry for me for I have no fear, all my pain is gone, Jesus took all my tears. Don’t cry for me, this is not the end. I’ll be waiting for you when we meet again. Special thanks to the entire nursing home staff at Aristacare @ Meadow Springs in Plymouth Meeting, Pa for providing the specialized care to Jerry during the time he needed it. Words cannot express our families gratitude for the care you provided.
