James E. Hollowell Jr.

James Ellis Hollowell Jr., affectionately known as “Jimmy,” was born on February 2, 1935, in Princeton, Kentucky. He transitioned from his earthly life to his eternal life on September 4, 2025, at the age of 90. Jimmy was a man whose love for the Lord guided his life. He valued hard work and providing for his family. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Navy and later retired in 1959. Throughout his life, he held many roles, including working at St. Christopher Hospital as an Assistant Mortician and at Quaker Salad as a factory worker. The majority of his career was spent at Philadelphia Sanitation, where he retired after 25 dedicated years in 1996. Jimmy was “the man,” one of the smoothest guys you’d ever meet. He loved to dress in white, kept his gold jewelry shining, and always valued health and taking care of himself. While he wasn’t one for large crowds, Jimmy cherished his quiet time and often spent the time listening to jazz or blues while watching sports, wrestling, or boxing. He was also an avid fisherman who could always be found with a fishing pole nearby. A true lover of music, all Jimmy needed was a good tune and suddenly the room became his dance floor, his signature two-step lighting up the space. He had a heart of gold, a smile that could brighten any room, and a laugh so contagious you couldn’t help but join in. But when his deep, authoritative voice came out, everyone knew playtime was over. Jimmy enjoyed a good home cooked meal, from breakfast with his ketchup covered eggs to a full soul food style dinner, and he never passed up dessert, especially his favorite, ice cream. He shared a beautiful marriage with his beloved wife, Pearl Jessie Hollowell, for 55 years of marriage, until she was called home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2014. Jimmy leaves behind 2 children, daughter: Delilah and son: Ellis, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 sisters and 2 nephews, and a host of relatives and devoted friends who will cherish his memory. James Ellis Hollowell Jr., “Jimmy,” was loved deeply and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His laughter, strength, and faith will forever live on in our hearts.
