James Harris

James Harris, age 71 transitioned April 20, 2021 James Harris was born on August 16, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was predeceased by his parents Johnnie Harris Sr. and Okredia Harris (Holmes). James was raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana. After graduating Central Memorial High School, James enlisted in the United State Marines Corp and fought in the Vietnam War. After serving his country James was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in 1973, he moved to Chester, Pennsylvania. James worked at Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co as a crane operator until they closed in 1989. He also worked as a crane operator at Evraz North America (formerly known as Phoenix Steel until he retired in 2018. James was a hard worker often working 60 – 80 hours a week. Sitting home was just not his way of life. So much so, he began working at LaQuinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham, Essington as a Transportation concierge until his untimely death. Not only was James a hard worker, he enjoyed cooking; especially grilling.... James was a family man and loved spending time with his fiancée, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed taking long drives to visit family members in South Carolina, Ohio and his home state of Louisiana. James is survived by his fiancée Patricia Nnamani, 6 children whom he raised as his own, Parris Berry, Clifton Berry III (Janell), Dinetta Graves, Nedra Berry, Rudolph Berry and Salena Nnamani; grandchildren, Lamar Berry, Parris Berry Jr., Diane Berry, Mikol Berry, Gilbert Graves Jr., Devon Graves, Diamond Graves, Charnae Berry-Coleman, Chaliene Henry (Bryone), Cameron Berry, Clifton Berry IV, Chanel Berry, Kierra Berry, Sherae Berry, Cory Stokes; 22 great grandchildren; brothers Curtis Harris, Earnest Braziel, Larry Harris, Kenneth Harris, Elliott Sanders (Zaydah); sisters, Sarah Jackson, Sheryl Harris, Starlette Braxton (Rev. DeWayne), LaCartha Weirick, Shanna Weirick, Audree Weirick and host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, John Harris Jr., Joseph Harris (Angela), Freddie Perry (Jenny), Rev. John Russell Perry (Cynthia), sister; Shirley Cyprian and sister-in-law, Sue Harris (Curtis).
