Horace Washington

Horace Washington was born on June 2,1938 to the late Johnnie Mack Washington and Nannie Pearl Parks in Greenwood SC. Horace transitioned from labor to rest on January 17, 2023, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Chester PA surrounded by family and friends. Horace was predeceased by his wife, Cynthia Ann Washington. Horace received his education in the Chester public schools, graduating from Chester High School in 1957. He served his country in the United States Army from 1961, honorably discharged in 1964. Horace was employed by Phoenix Steel, Westinghouse and the Chester Housing Authority, from where he retired. Horace was united in holy matrimony to Cynthia Ann Bost on February 17, 1964. From this union, three children were born, Brian, Tanya and Dwain. Horace was an avid sports fan who especially loved baseball and football. All who knew him knew he “despised” all teams Philadelphia but faithfully watched every Phillies and Eagles game. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he will be remembered for his love of sharing his knowledge and wisdom with any who enjoyed his company. One of his most prized possessions was the famous Chevy Conversion Van. Anyone who rode in it, knew the rules “don’t touch nothing, don’t break nothing”. Horace also enjoyed music. His favorite time of the year would start with “Please Come Home for Christmas (Bells Will Be Ringing)” by Charles Brown followed by The Temptations Christmas on constant repeat from Thanksgiving until Christmas Day. Horace will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, lively storytelling with his legs crossed on the sofa and generous inclusion of curse words, political discourse and an immense love of family. Horace leaves to cherish his memory seven (7) children, Angela (Clarence), Pearlina (Harvey), Janice (Vergil), Brian (Wanda), Tanya (Karl-Kaprice), Dwain and Katrina (Carl); seventeen (17) grandchildren, David, Vince, Andrew, Branden, Syrita, Angela, Nasir, Brian Jr, Braheem, Michael Jr, Devin, JaQuan, Janiya, Cierra, Cahron, Ciani, Chariya; twenty (20) great grandchildren; five (5) sisters in-law; two (2) brothers in- law and host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
