Flossie M. Guy

FLOSSIE was born on October 28, 1934, in Java, Virginia, to the late Sally Francis (Granny) Womack-Dodson and Marshall Dodson. She suddenly departed this life to take up her heavenly residence on September 10, 2025, at Coral Springs Nursing and Rehab — holding the hand of her roommate and dear friend, Linda Lacey, as she peacefully transitioned. FLOSSIE began her early education in Java, Virginia and later moved to Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Ridley High School in 1951. She was employed as a live-in nanny in Haverford, Pennsylvania and later worked at the George Washington Motor Lodge as the Supervisor of Housekeeping. She retired from The Lagoon (formerly Wabler’s on the Delaware), where she also served as the Housekeeping Supervisor. Throughout her career, she was loved and appreciated by her employees and coworkers for her compassion, empathy and willingness to lend a listening ear. People were naturally drawn to her because of her loving heart. FLOSSIE was a former member of Fairview Baptist Church of Woodlyn, Pennsylvania. FLOSSIE was a devoted mother to her one and only child, Vanessa Ann Dodson-Hardy and her loving son-in-law to Richard Hardy, whom she cherished as her own son. She was united in holy matrimony to Abe Cooper Guy on (May 26, 2002). Although Flossie only birthed one child, she cared deeply for her family and extended her love by opening both her home and her heart to raise nieces, nephews and stepchildren as her own. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Vanessa Hardy (Richard); her only living sibling, Shirley Flowers; granddaughters Saniy’yah Samaa Dodson and Shaniy’kah Hardy; grandsons Paris Lamont Church and Prince Kairo Hammond; stepchildren Sherry Tyler (Tyrone), Denise Banks (Michael), Nanette Williams (Henry), Lamont Melvin (Erika); bonus grandchildren: Lamar Dodson (Lora), Lakeisha Collins (Mark), Na’eem Melvin; step-grandchildren Kenya, Ashley, Shahara, Nyiesha, Mike Jr., Cheraine and Brelle; Loving nieces Ruby May, Melissa White, Renee & Brandi Holliday & Josetta Ford . A host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Abe C. Guy; her sister, Rosetta Womack; her brothers, Rosevelt Dean Dodson and John “Dinkey” Dodson; her niece, Marie Dodson Powell; and her stepson, Kevin Guy, along with Amin and Nate Bannister.
