Elline V. Hanna-Thornton

Elline Victoria Hanna-Thornton was born of July 24, 1947, to the proud parents of Deacon William Owen Hanna & the late Deaconess Ruth E. Brooks-Hanna. She was the oldest of four daughters. Her baby sister, Denise L. Hanna, preceded her in death. She attended school in the Southeast Delco School District and was a graduate of the first graduating class of Darby Township High School in 1965. She then attended Cheyney State University and later attended Murrell Dobbins Vocational School in Philadelphia where she was trained in Laboratory Technology. After finishing Dobbins Vocational School, she began a career in the Hematology Laboratory as a Lab Technician for 40 years. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at a very young age at the First African Baptist Church of Sharon Hill, PA under the pastorate of the late Booker W. Watkins. She was a very active member of the church from her childhood through her adult years. Serving as Church Clerk, past President, and member of the B. W. Watkins Scholarship Ministry. She also served for many years as a Vacation Bible School Teacher and counselor for Camp Joy. She later moved her membership to the Cathedral St. Mark Christian Community Church, Chester (Woodlyn), PA under the leadership of her eldest son. She was an active Missionary and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She also attended the Faith Fellowship School of Ministry of the Chesapeake Bible College and Seminary and received her Associates Degree in Christian Ministry. Elline was a loving, strong and dedicated mother to her three children, Bishop Anthony C. Hanna (Elder Althea), Robert T. Hanna (Jane), and Traci L. Mink (George). She also loved and spoiled 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren along with a numerous number of adoptive children and grandchildren who called her Mom or Mom-Mom. Elline showed love, encouragement, and an open heart to all she encountered; she fed, clothed, and gave a place to sleep for anyone in need. Everyone was welcomed at Mom-Mom’s! She also leaves to mourn her father, Deacon William O. Hanna, her husband, Clarence Thornton, Jr along with his two daughters Katrina & Khadeshia Gredic; her 2 sisters, Deborah L. Hanna, and Patrica J. Clark (Norman), 6 aunts, 3 uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church & fellowship family, and friends.
