Edwina B. Bradley

Edwina ‘Weenie’ Bradley was born on February 11, 1932, to the late Edwin and Edith Burgin. She was the seventh of eight children and was raised in Darby, PA until the family moved to Morton, PA in 1942. Weenie attended Phyllis Wheatley School and graduated from Media High School in 1951. While in high school, she worked each summer taking care of two young brothers from Swarthmore at the family’s summer home in Cape May. She also worked at Tri-County Hospital in the sterile processing department and at Jamesway Department Store. In the 1950s, she visited her best friend Blanche (Sister) Chase in Brooklyn, NY where she met Albert Mapp, a saxophone player in a Brooklyn jazz club. They hit it off and through this relationship came her daughter Edith Ann and son Whitney. Weenie provided for her children and was a loving and caring mom. She later dated William R. Bradley, Sr (Socko) and through this union, Shannon was born. They moved to Berlin, NJ, married there, and also raised his 3 children, Patricia, Reggie, and Lisa, living as a blended family. She was soon baptized at Green Grove Baptist Church in Berlin by Rev. George Holland and regularly attended the church when she lived in NJ. Weenie lived a full and vibrant life. In 2007, she moved to Episcopal Place at Park Row in Upland. She loved walking and catching public transportation, and you could always find her out and about throughout Delaware County and Philadelphia. Her favorite TV channel was Hallmark Mystery. She was also an avid reader and loved mystery novels. She read her mysteries throughout the day and just before bedtime, even until the day she transitioned. She was predeceased by her mother and father, siblings Edna Howell, Edwin Burgin, Jr, Edith Walker, Ellen Mayo, Jessie Chambers, Alberta McNeil, Wilma Johnson, granddaughter Anirah and special cousin Zinora Dickerson. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Edith Ann Ball (Chris), Shannon Kinney (Johnnie), Patricia Bradley and Lisa Bradley, sons Whitney Mapp (Darlene) and William R. Bradley, Jr. Her 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss her dearly. She will also be missed by special nieces Irma Pitts, Debra Hagan, and Cordelia Wesley, cousin Wilmer ‘Woody’ Woodland, and her best friends Betty Nelson, Rachael Neal, Delores Jones-Butler, and Clarence ‘Bud’ Willis.
