Dorothy Ann Davis-Carter

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (1 Corinthians 13:4-6, NIV) Dorothy Ann Davis-Carter, affectionately known as Ann by family and friends, was born to the late Clyde and Susie Anna Davis in Chester, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1944. She entered into eternal rest on January 8, 2023 at home in Darby, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her family. Ann spent most of her life in Chester, Pennsylvania where she attended public schools. Ann was employed by Nixon’s cleaners for a short time. She met and married James E. Carter, Sr. and from this union, they had 5 children. Ann reared her kids with an iron clad hand and she didn’t tolerate any disrespect. That tough love is what made her children the strong individuals they are today. Besides loving and raising her kids, her greatest joy in life was when she dedicated her life to the Lord. When she dedicated her life to the Lord, she truly became a child of God. Ann enjoyed cooking and baking (she was known for her culinary skills). She enjoyed playing cards, Gin Rummy, pity pat and solitaire. Mom also loved helping others, no matter how big or small she did it and did it well. She was known for feeding people, providing shelter and for giving clothes and shoes as needed. She used to always say that it cost nothing to show people a little kindness. One of her favorite expressions was “The seed that you sow so shall you reap”. Later in life, Ann loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Some of her favorite past times were reading, playing bingo, and scratching off lottery tickets. Those left to cherish her precious memories are her five children, Pamela Carter (Rus), James E. Carter, Jr. (Andrea), Carolyn Peterson, Aaron Carter and Ernest Jay Plummer (Lanise), two brothers Morton Davis (Arlene) and Perry Davis. Grandchildren, Tanesha Robinson, Anyaa’ Carter, Jamie Carter, Shaunte Carter, Eric Baldwin, Evan Baldwin (Tink), Sierra Baldwin, Angelina Carter, Hussein Plummer, Hassan Plummer, Hameed Plummer and Saniyaah Plummer. Great-grandchildren, Jordan Robinson, Alayah Robinson, Akeem Robinson, Nazir Black, Jr., Ny’Jon Baldwin, Evan Baldwin, Jr., Ky’rie Baldwin, Journey McGurn. Her sister-in-laws Patricia Davis and Ruby Davis as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her caregivers: Joan Gomez, Dorita Hill & Guerline Dulcio. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Carter, Sr., her parents, Clyde Davis, Sr. and Susie Anna Wright-Davis, five brothers, Clyde Davis, Curtis Davis, Willie Davis, Ronald Davis and Jimmie Davis, two sisters, Shirley Culbreath and Gloria Bannister.
