Clyde R. Taylor

Clyde Ronald Taylor was born to the late Katie Knight Taylor and Carlton Franklin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 24, 1939. He attended school in Chester, Pennsylvania at Watts Elementary. He graduated from Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There he met and played basketball with Wilt Chamberlain. Another highlight was that he was able to play piano at Carnegie Hall in New York City while visiting there. He furthered his education at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was employed as an auto mechanics teacher with the Chester-Upland School District for 30 years. Clyde met his wife, Marguerite through a friend, (Sandy Thompson.) They married in 1958, and had a wonderful, long-lasting marriage of 60 years and were blessed with three children. They were devoted to their family; and they settled in Chester, Pennsylvania and remained there until his demise. Clyde was a great craftsman, having renovated their home from top to bottom. After his retirement in 2005, Clyde enjoyed the simple things in life. He and Marguerite loved hanging out with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking them to amusement parks, on train rides, and by attending many of their school programs, birthday parties, and sporting events. They enjoyed a helicopter ride over the Atlantic in their later years (Clyde had never flown before.) He was a member of the Road Runner's Van Club. Clyde really enjoyed the Atlantic City beach, going to the Chester Waterfront, playing computer games, watching sci-fi movies, cooking--especially making ice cream and desserts with the kids. And, he made wine in the 70's. Clyde departed this life at 8:05 AM Saturday, September 10, 2022, in Chester, Pennsylvania. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Taylor and his son, Clyde Potts. He leaves to mourn his passing: daughter, Robin Jones; sons, Dwayne Taylor and Darryl Taylor; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Taylor; sister-in-law, Louise Devlin; grandchildren, Chaunte Baxter (Robert), Edward Jones, Jr., Halle Jones, Ashley Wilson, Clyde Potts, Jr., and Nishera Potts; great-grandchildren, LaNya Baxter, Asiyah Duah, Mia Baxter, Ryan Baxter, Enzo Pedone, Sylas Potts, and Greyson Penn, and some cousins.
