Benjamin Butler

Benjamin Butler was born September 29,1957 to William Butler Jr. and Corrine D. Hollis. He was reared in north Philadelphia and later relocated to southwest Philadelphia where his upbringing was continued by the late Carrie Overby Butler. He received his formal education in the school district of Philadelphia, and he held various positions of employment with the last one being at Hahnemann Hospital. At the age of 19 he became the father of Radeam Conway and later became the father of Shania Rogers. He also was the godfather to his twin nephews Clifton and Cameron Berry. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia. He met and married the “love of his life” Cheryl Wright in 1993, and they had 31 years of marital bliss. From this point on he began to display a deep love of Jesus Christ to any and all that he encountered. Benjamin was a kind and loving person, and had a way of making people feel special and included. He had a great love of sports and could also be found watching his favorite movies. He often organized sporting parties which included various friends and family that he accumulated over the years, such as his father-in-law Cliff, Marcus Brunson, and Derek Kearns etc. He also developed a friendship and formulated a spiritual bond with Reverend Kenneth Brown. Knowing Ben was to understand that he loved people. He had a way of making everyone feel special. You left any conversation that you had with him better than when you started. Ben was also active in various ministries at Eternal Hope of Glory until his health became challenged. His spiritual bond also broadened with Reverend Kenneth Brown and included his late wife, Charmian Brown. Ben was a devoted member of the Brown’s spiritual marriage ministry titled: “Marriage Ministry Together Inc. for over two decades. As part of that ministry Benjamin became a member of “Motivated Married Men”, once receiving the “Excellence Award” as the most improved husband. Within the marriage ministry Ben and his wife Cheryl participated in over 20 plus years of spiritually based couples counseling, and individual counseling, which contributed to the success of their marriage. Ben is survived by his wife Cheryl, his son Radeam, his daughter Shania, and a multitude of sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Benjamin and Cheryl are a testimony to what serious committed dating, premarital counseling, and ongoing marital support can do to contribute to the success of matrimonial vows. ‘Until death do us part”.
