Gone too Soon A Celebration of Life For Elizabeth Jean Oliver Corbitt Sunrise Sunset October 24, 1947 December 24, 2022 Affectionally called Jean by all who knew her, Jean was the daughter of the late Charles and Gracie Oliver. Born October 24, 1947, Jean passed away suddenly on December 24, 2022. She was a Chester resident all her life. Jean attended the Chester School District, Parry A. Wright Elementary School, Franklin Middle School, and went on to Ridley Township High school, graduating in the class of 1965. Later in life, Jean worked at Swarthmore College as a Environmental Services Technician for twenty-eight years until she retired. Later in life, Jean joined the Wilson Senior Center in Chester, PA, where she thrived and loved this center and all the activities the center had to offer. Jean enjoyed the trips, plays, shows and luncheons with the center. Jean also went on a few weekend trips with the center and attended as many as she could. Jean also loved to meet new people and meet up with old childhood friends from the Fairgrounds where she grew up. At the center, Jean learned many new arts and crafts. She surprised herself and us as well with her creativity and artistic abilities and was proud of all her work. Jean had a stroke twenty-three years ago and with the use of one hand, Jean painted ceramic figurines, made beautiful all occasion cards and very pretty jewelry. Jean was a sociable person; she really loved to talk and talk and talk. Jean was also very funny and could make you laugh easily. Jean would laugh at herself when she would say “I have something to tell you, but don’t tell anybody because you know they say I can’t keep a secret and I talk too much”. Jean was easy-going, but don’t get it wrong, if you said or did something wrong, she would put you in your place. Her most professional past time, as many of us know, was SHOPPING on all levels and networks and she loved her cherished collection of Dooney and Bourke handbags. Jean was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society Chester Chapter. She was also an avid Eagles fan and loved the 76ers. She had all the gear and would watch all the games with her son Bees and sometimes with her son-in-law Verdon. Jean also watched her soap operas for years. Jean’s favorite movie was the “Color Purple” and would watch this movie over and over again. Jean’s other passion was food. She loved to eat anything her sister, Cola, would fix her. Her special requests were spaghetti, cabbage, sweet potatoes, fried chicken wings, and LET’S NOT FORGET, coconut cake and homemade cookies. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gracie Oliver, the love of her life, Albert L. Corbitt (Sil), her two brothers Charles Oliver Jr. and Kelvin Oliver. Her three sisters Margaret M. Oliver, Shirley A. Oliver Johnson, and Sylvia D. Oliver Ramey. She is survived by her two children, Chenita R. Stinson-Young and Terrell L. Stinson, her two grandsons who she adored Robert Jeffery Wilson and Justin Mykal Lee, one sister Jacobina (Cola) Oliver Priest, her brother Anthony C. Oliver, daughter-in-law Dahlmetria Stinson and son-in-law Verdon Young. Four sister-in laws Barbara Oliver, Norma Oliver, Thyra Brumskill and Geraldine Corbitt, two brothers-in-law Robert Priest and Alonzo Corbitt. Jean is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean also had a few special friends, her neighbors, Tony and Candy, who would always check in on her bringing vegetables and platters of food. Brenda Heygood who would be there for whatever Jean needed and wanted. She would come over and visit with her sister-in-law Geraldine Corbitt and have coffee, watch TV, laugh and talk. Jean truly enjoyed their friendship and company. They would also make sure she got to her Red Hat Society meetings and events and not be left out of the fun at the senior center. From Jean’s family, we thank you very much for the love and kindness shown by everyone to our mother and sister.
