Barbara J. Hardy

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Joyce Hardy, who made her transition peacefully of natural causes at The Belvedere Nursing Home in Chester, Pa. on June 4, 2023, at the age of 81. Born to the late Elgin & George Dickerson, Sr., Barbara was a high-stepping majorette for Ridley High School and a baton-twirling member of the Class of '59. Born on July 20, 1941, at Fitzgerald-Mercy Hospital in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, Joyce grew up in Morton, Pa. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband James Lumford Hardy, Sr., and a devoted mother where they raised two wonderful boys: Jonathan Hardy and James Hardy, Jr. Joyce lived a fulfilling life and held some notable jobs, such as working at The Franklin Mint and played a major role developing what is now called The Franklin Mint Credit Union. Thus, becoming a part of the financial institution’s history as a founding member. Due to a high demanding position, Joyce made the decision to focus on her son’s educational and sports endeavors. As they blossomed, Joyce worked as an officer within the Department of Domestic Relations for Delaware County. She was known and appreciated for her hard work, helpful knowledge, and loyal support. During her retirement, Joyce loved the occasional trips to the Casino, Cape May vacations with her husband and enjoyed reading the local newspaper. Joyce Hardy was a kind and generous soul, always putting family’s needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile, warm personality, and her famous Morton 4th of July backyard barbeques! Most importantly, she always loved her family and left us with so many amazing memories to cherish. She is survived by her sons: Jon and Jim; Brother: George (Dickie) Dickerson, Jr.; Sister-in-laws: Margaret Dickerson, Carnella McCleary; Daughter-in-laws: Heather Hardy (Jon), Lucienne Hardy (Jim); Five Grandchildren: Hannah, Octavia, Mariah, Daria, and Devin; Nieces: Kim Dickerson, Edith Hardy; Nephew: Jason Dickerson and a host ( far too many to name) of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. Rest in peace, dear mother. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
